Using Skype With Your iPhone

A famous song by Destiny's Child, "Bills Bills Bills", has a chorus in it which goes:

can you pay my bills
can you pay my telephone bills
can you pay my automo-bills
then maybe we can chill
I don't think you do
so you and me are through

It's funny how the telephone bill should become an item of contention. But it's true, sometimes the telephone bill does become a bit of a burden. This month alone I got a bill for about RM486 (out of a maximum of RM600). That is a lot of billing which woke me up from my pleasant slumber.

As more and more people get online, it becomes clear that the power of internet telephony can be harnessed for a good cause. In today's news I read that the new Skype application for the Apple iPhone has been downloaded over one million times in two days, making it about 6 downloads per second! Part of the drive that will push the downloads for Skype for iPhone into greater numbers is the advent of flat rate 3G services. Data services have become better and better, allowing for users to harness the power of the Internet no matter where they go. While connectivity remains an issue in certain parts of Malaysia, it appears that smaller, more modernized countries will be embracing this in no time. For an in-depth capture of Malaysia's connectivity, please read this very recent article: Speeding Up Broadband (The Star, 21st March 2009, URL: http://biz.thestar.com.my/news/story.asp?file=/2009/3/21/business/3497587&sec=business).

Mobile broadband users are expected to reach 2 billion by 2014. Forty percent (40%) of mobile laptop users will come from Asia. (Source: AFP, Asia to Drive Mobile Broadband Internet Access. 25th March 2009. URL: http://www.google.com/hostednews/afp/article/ALeqM5iLEv59W6dhJExBJevhKc61MCMQ-Q)

If you are not too sure about what all of this means, don't worry. Do you have an iPhone? Download the new Skype for iPhone if you do. Quick, here is the download link:
