Using the Power of Twitter

Dear reader,

Recently, I came to realise that Twitter is quite useful for getting the latest news updates. In fact, Twitter is much better at providing the latest news updates than Facebook, but both have their pros and cons. In Twitter, you can harness its news network through the search function, and you can find results from all over the world. You can customize it according to "Top Tweets" or "Tweets with Links". It is possible in Facebook, but it will depend on whether you are connected to the person posting (privacy settings) and you need to search for posts by all users. In Facebook, updates from friends will be kept in your view even hours after they have been posted. This is another point of divergence from Twitter, which continues to update and update, and old news becomes out of sight and easily forgotten.

Hence, you may be asking me what I have been searching for on Twitter. Well, some of the following stuff:

  1. Scholarships. I can find news about scholarships on Twitter by keying in the phrases (for example) "masters scholarship".
  2. Traffic updates. I can search for #klrb (Kuala Lumpur Road Block) or #kltu (Kuala Lumpur Traffic Update) and get news about latest traffic conditions. Of course the whole thing works only if people share information, so I update sometimes as well.
  3. Freebies. For example, you can search for "free HTML template" and see some free HTML templates.
  4. Contests. These are usually time limited.
  5. Giveaways. These too are good stuff.
  6. Updates on your favourite politician. For example, try typing "khairykj" in the search box and see what pops up.
  7. Other stuff - that you could probably figure out for yourself.

That's it for now. Thank you for reading.
